Welcome to Mayday Psychology
Greetings! Welcome to my website. I am Jan Roberts. My practice is called Mayday Psychology. I am a registered general psychologist located in Sydney, New South Wales. I work through medical centres in Rockdale and Rosebery. Under new Medicare provisions, I currently work exclusively online. I use Viber for face-to-face online sessions. Download Viber from www.viber.com. Viber is free to use and has no time limit.
Attending online allows clients to engage in their sessions in the privacy and security of their own homes. They do not need to travel to a clinic and back again, perhaps having to bringing young children with them. If they wish, they can have sessions in their lunch times at work or schedule a break if they work at home. They can be relaxed and comfortable in their own environment.
Online work enables me to accept clients from anywhere in Australia. If you would like to attend for therapy sessions, please obtain a Medicare Mental Health Care Plan from your doctor and a referral letter addressed to me at either my Rockdale or Rosebery clinic. Then contact me for an appointment using the enquiry form below or email me on ashteddy@icloud.com.
Medicare provides Mental Health Care Plans for people who are experiencing depression, anxiety or other mental and emotional conditions. To obtain a Mental Health Care Plan, consult your GP to discuss your eligibility for a plan. Under your Mental Health Care plan, Medicare will provide a rebate for 10 psychology sessions per calendar year, ongoing as needed. Once you have obtained a plan, you may then make an appointment to see a psychologist. Your doctor will give you with a copy of the plan to provide to your psychologist or clinic. The doctor's clinic can also send a copy of your plan and referral letter to the psychologist's clinic on your behalf.
If your psychologist charges only the Medicare rebate, you will not need to pay anything for your sessions. If your psychologist charges more than the rebate, you will need to pay the full amount and claim the rebate. Some private health funds also cover some or all of the cost of psychological treatment. Please note clinics may charge for appointments that are missed without notice. This charge is not subject to a Medicare rebate. My clients are bulk billed, meaning that Medicare pays the rebate and the clients do not pay extra for the session. A charge may apply to missed appointments.
As well as clients who have Mental Health Care Plans, I also accept clients under private health funds. Other private billing is available.
My qualifications are Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Theology, Graduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology, Master of Arts (Child & Adolescent Psychopathology) and Master of Applied Science (Behavioural Science).
All of my practice is conducted according to the Australian Psychological Society Code of Ethics and Professional Standards. I am an international affiliate member of the American Psychological Association.
Regarding the name of my practice, the word "mayday" has been used since 1921 as a voice signal for occurrences of life-threatening emergency related to aircraft or ships. It was based on the French phrase "m'aider" ("help me"). It is conveyed by radio communication and said three times to indicate an emergency situation. I use the term in a psychology context as an invitation for people to find help with mental and emotional distress.

THERAPIES
"I am not what happened to me, I am what I choose to become"
- Carl Jung, one of the creators of modern psychology.
COGNITIVE
With assistance from guided cognitive therapy, people can discard destructive thinking and feeling that limit their potential. They can bring affirmative attitudes to their lives, allowing them to become the free and unique individual they choose to be.
TRAUMA
Successfully treating the effects of trauma is one of the most helpful outcomes of therapy. Trauma effects are persistent. Trauma therapy frees people to reject the limitations that past traumatic experiences inflicts on them and allows them to bring the sparkle back to their lives.
COPING
Effective coping with long-term stressors prevents depletion of emotional resources and enhances resilience. Therapy focused on helping people to manage better in the present and maintain hope for the future can bring strength and comfort to lighten their journey.
